Health care insurance open enrollment begins on November 1. Feel confident about the choices you make by educating yourself and thinking about what plan will be best for you and your family.

Here are four steps to help you hit the ground running:

Step 1: Watch for your rate notice to arrive

Blue Cross NC is mailing rate notices in October. It will have details about benefits and your health plan. This will include your estimated 2018 monthly premium. Read it carefully and store it in a safe place.

Your rate notice will also include a Verification of Coverage (VOC). It’ll serve as your temporary member ID card starting on January 1 until your new card arrives in the mail. (If you change your plan or fail to make your January payment, the information on your VOC may not be correct.)

Step 2: Confirm your contact details

If we don’t have your current email and postal address, you could miss important news about your health plan. So, log in to Blue Connect and double-check that your contact details are accurate. It only takes a moment. You can set delivery preferences for certain materials, too.

Step 3: Update your financial information, if needed

Do you get an Advanced Premium Tax Credit (APTC) from the government to help pay for your coverage? (This is called a subsidy.) If so, update your financial information on healthcare.gov as soon as possible. That way, you’ll get the correct subsidy when your 2018 health coverage begins on January 1.

Starting November 1, you can visit the Manage Your Policy page on Blue Connect to see your updated subsidy amount for next year. You’ll need the “Summary of Benefits and Coverage” for your 2018 plan there, too.
