Did you know that one out of every 10 people in North Carolina has served in the military? With so many of our friends, neighbors and relatives having served our country, all of us should find a way to express our appreciation.

One way we do that is by recognizing that military servicemen, servicewomen and their families often have unique health care needs. That’s why we’ve teamed up with the North Carolina Focus on Service Members, Veterans and their Families to create Red, White & BLUE NC, a simple, new website that offers a one-stop-shop full of helpful resources.

This website is geared toward both current and former military service members, their families, and their doctors and includes:

  • PTSD resources
  • Life coaching resources
  • Apps to help manage PTSD, insomnia and smoking

But this program doesn’t stop there. Our efforts also involve the health care team as well. Several BCBSNC-developed resources and training courses are now available at no charge to doctors and medical professionals who care for veterans. “We want to get these important resources into the hands of friends, family and neighbors who have served,” said Dr. John Fong, a senior medical director at BCBSNC and a leader in establishing Red, White & BLUE NC. “We not only want to connect veterans with these helpful resources, but to empower health care team members with training and information to provide excellent care to veterans across North Carolina.”

We’re not only committed to taking care of veterans by ensuring they receive the best care possible, but we’re also reaching out to them in order to retain and support former military personnel here at our company.

It’s crucial that we all work together to address issues experienced uniquely by both veterans and their families. We encourage you to share the Red, White & Blue NC resource with the veterans in your life.
