Quantcast

No matter your age, you need choices for staying active. That’s why we’re working with BlueMedicare customers to get low cost gym memberships.

Why gym memberships? Because no matter how beautiful a morning walk is, it just doesn’t compare to the weight selection, aqua zumba classes or the kind of elliptical machines at a local gym. Not to mention, it’s always good to mix things up.

We’re happy that many of our active retirees want to stay active and that’s why we offer choices to our BlueMedicare customers, so they can continue going to the gym, taking fitness classes, and living a healthier life.

Here are some of our offerings for our BlueMedicare customers:

If you are a member of Blue Medicare HMO or PPO, low-cost gym memberships are available through the Blue 365 program:

Blue 365: Healthways Fitness Your Way

What is it?
Healthways™ Fitness Your Way offers access to your choice of one out of nearly 9,000 different fitness locations for the current rate of $25 a month. It also includes other health and well-being specialists and discounts.

How do I sign up?
Go to the Healthways page on the Blue365 website. On the site, you can find the gyms near you that are participating in the program. Once you find a gym that will work for you, click ‘Register’ in the top right corner of the webpage. After you sign up, you will be able to click ‘Redeem now’ and you’re ready to go!

If you are a member of Blue Medicare Supplement, you have two options for low-cost gym membership:

Blue 365: Healthways Fitness Your Way (see above) OR

Silver&Fit

What is it?
Silver&Fit offers access to a broad network of participating fitness facilities and instructor-led classes for $50 per year. It also offers a Home Fitness Program, for $10 per year, with the customer’s choice of up to 2 fitness kits.

How do I sign up?
As of May 1, 2015, members of Blue Medicare Supplement may call the Silver&Fit toll-free Member Services hotline at 1-877-764-2746 (TTY/TDD 1-877-710-2476) to enroll for $50 per year, or to select the Home Fitness Program for $10 per year.

But wait, what about Silver Sneakers?

Silver&Fit replaced the Silver Sneakers program in June 2015. We made this change in order to continue to provide health care coverage to our customers at a low cost.

Why? Well, we found that a very small percentage of our customers who were eligible for the Silver Sneakers program took advantage of it during the three years that we offered it.  While we applaud this group for staying active through the program, we also know that many customers choose to stay active without going to the gym.

Because of this, we decided to switch to a program that provides gym membership for $50/year. It’s a big difference if you compare it to the average gym membership, which is, as stated by IBIS World’s market research, $492 per year. So that means our BlueMedicare customers are still saving a huge percentage.

“The new program offers valuable gym memberships for people that use them while still keeping cost low for everyone,” says Diana Storey, one of our employees who works with the program.

Getting your gym on the list of Silver & Fit gyms:

We know that change isn’t always convenient and that a few of our customers have found that gyms that were available through Silver Sneakers are not yet available through Silver&Fit. To resolve this, Silver&Fit is constantly adding new gyms to its current list of 300 included in the program.

We also encourage you to nominate a gym to be on the list. You can do so by calling the Silver&Fit toll-free Member Services hotline at 1-877-764-2746 (TTY/TDD 1-877-710-2746).

In April of this year, we sent customers affected by these changes a letter in the mail explaining the new program. We love to hear that our customers are staying active, and want to make sure we provide you with the right resources to continue supporting your efforts.
