Preparing for a half-marathon is no small task, as Allison shared. It takes a whole lot of mental and physical preparation, weeks ahead of actual race day. But no matter how far you’re running, you’ll want to make sure you’ve got everything you need on the big day, too. (Trust me, being ill-prepared spelled doom for my first 5K)

There are a lot of things to consider when you put your foot to the pavement or the trail, so we thought we’d compile a handy half marathon checklist you can use for your next running adventure. It’s about the big picture, too. The night before, the day of, and the recovery period are all important to consider.

Keep this list handy, and you’ll be on your way to a smooth race.
