Another Private Exchange Opens for Business in NC

Get ready for more options when it comes to choosing your annual health benefits.

BCBSNC is launching its first private exchange for North Carolina employers with at least 51 employees. Beginning Sept. 1, the exchange lets employers select up to four different medical plans to offer their employees from a menu of 18 plan options.

It comes as more private exchanges are becoming available as a way to help employers help manage their health care spending while giving employees more options. Chances are, if you work for a large or mid-sized employer, you’ll begin to see these choices over the next few years.

For employees, the new BCBSNC exchange — called BlueBenefits Center –allows choices from among the plans offered at their workplace, including the ability to select pricing and coverage options that best suit their health needs. Our news release includes some details on how it will work. And our recent blog post explains why private exchanges are all the rage these days in benefits administration.

Last year, private exchanges for North Carolina employers were announced by the N.C. Chamber, Digital Benefit Advisors, and several large benefits consulting firms.
